Enrolment
Enrolment
The Department of Education has a new statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline effective as of April 24th.
The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Mulgrave Primary School.
You can find information and resources about the enrolment timeline at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep). Parents should also visit Starting school | Victorian Government (www.vic.gov.au)
Please carefully read the information below so as to fill in the correct form.
Enrolment applications are to be submitted by Friday 28th July 2023.
All families will be notified of the outcome by Friday 11th August 2023. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should contact Mulgrave Primary School to accept the offer by Friday August 2023.
Families who reside within the zone for Mulgrave Primary School will need to fill in a digital Enrolment form and email it to the school. If you are unable to complete an electronic form, you can collect a copy from the school office.
Families who reside out of zone to Mulgrave Primary School will be required to follow a 2 stage process. This includes filling in the application form first, and if successfully accepted by the school, an enrolment form will need to be completed in August.

Application form – Out of Zone families
The application form supports parents/carers of eligible students to apply for a place at a government school. It is intended to be used before an enrolment form is completed and may be used for any year level (apart from Year 6 to 7 placement, which has its own form and process).
Information collected in the form allows schools to assess the application in line with the Placement Policy. Schools may request parents/carers to provide supporting documentation to confirm a student’s address. When assessing an application, schools may make enquiries to verify the information provided.

Enrolment form – In Zone families and families who have had their application accepted.
Families who currently reside in the zone to attend Mulgrave Primary School or have had their application accepted by the school, must complete an Enrolment form if enrolling for the first time in the Victorian government school system. Most commonly, this would occur at Foundation (Prep) enrolment.
An enrolment form is not required for students transferring between Victorian government schools. Refer to: Student transfers between schools.
Parents/carers should complete the enrolment form when all of the following apply:
- enrolling a child for the first time in the Victorian government school system
- the selected school has confirmed a place is available
- they intend to send their child to the selected school.

Priority Order of Placement
Eligible children and young persons have the right to be admitted to their designated neighbourhood government school, regardless of capacity.
In circumstances when a school may not be able to accept all applications due to existing or future capacity concerns, schools must manage enrolment applications in accordance with the following priority order of placement:
1. students with a sibling at the same permanent address who are attending the school at the same time
2. all other students in order of closeness of their home to the school.
The Mulgrave Primary School zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au.
Findmyschool.vic.gov.au hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones for 2022 onwards.
Students residing in this zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.
The Department provides guidance through the School Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations.
You can find more information and answers to frequently asked questions on the Department’s website under School zones.
